Dunlop Design wins 2023 TIDA New Zealand Powder Room of the Year
Congratulations to Jennie Dunlop of Dunlop Design – winner of the 2023 Trends International Design Awards New Zealand Powder Room of the Year
Powder rooms don’t need to be large spaces, but sometimes the amount of space allocated to them can be particularly tight.
That was the case for this apartment powder room, which was given a long narrow space on the plan.
This meant the only option was to have the toilet facing the door – but then the challenge was to find enough space for the basin, and to create design drama on the side wall.
The TIDA judges noted how the designer’s decision to recess a 1300mm wide by 60mm deep space into the side wall provided an ideal solution for both challenges.
Tiny mosaic tiles on the back wall of the recess contrast with the boldly veined, large format floor and wall tiles.
Against this, the backlit pedestal basin and oval mirror provide strong focal points in the tight space.
