However, once they saw the unique Macchiato quartz their plan changed, with the interior scheme adapting to complement the colour tones in the stone. The result is a kitchen with a calm and natural palette that flows through the home's living areas, laundry, and bathrooms. Design highlightsThe majority of the kitchen and scullery feature recessed negative detail handles so as to not detract from the cabinetry – however bronze handles were chosen for the integrated fridge & dishwasher to add a warm accent to complement the quartz, veneer and selected tapware. Corian Glacier White was used for all the benchtops throughout. The main reason for this was to make use of Corian’s seamless joins due to the length of the back benchtop that spans from kitchen to scullery, with no barriers. The Glacier White Corian kept the material elements to a minimum, highlighting the Macchiato quartz as the main feature of the kitchen with its use on the kitchen splashback and island. Floating shelves were introduced to create a more airy, open feel above the bench while not restricting the natural light filtering through the full height window. The shelving not only breaks up the section of wall cabinets but also allows the owner to add visual interest through display items. The shelves added another textural dimension using the Vidaspace Shinnoki Cinnamon Triba veneer, which complements the coffee-coloured veining through the Macchiato quartz and contrasts against the lighter coloured timber floor & ceiling. The homeowner requested a charging point to eliminate the need for tablets etc to sit on bench – a Hafele docking drawer was added to a drawer in the scullery to meet this requirement. We also introduced a drop down Evoline port in an overhead cupboard to remove the need for any power points in the granite splashback. Within the design process there was much discussion with the builder of how to handle the transition across the full height window. The 30mm thick quartz splashback of the kitchen changes to 12mm tiles of the scullery, at the junction of the window jamb and the benchtops.
