Classic feel, contemporary function

This main bathroom looks the part in its classic apartment environment while its teenagers-on-the-go occupants appreciate its modern usability

Designed by Angelique Perak, Studio Duo

From the architect:

The design of the main bathroom within this heritage terrace harmoniously blends historical charm with contemporary functionality, creating a sanctuary for the teenage daughters who use it.

At the heart of the meticulously planned space lies the refinished claw foot bath, a nostalgic centrepiece strategically positioned before a grand window.

This placement not only celebrates the historical essence of the terrace but also offers serene views of the surrounding chimney pots – providing a picturesque backdrop that enriches the bathing experience.

The room’s design incorporates modern conveniences, all discreetly concealed within bespoke cabinetry to maintain the bathroom's pared back elegance.

The cabinetry is crafted, with careful consideration to both form and function, ensuring ample storage while preserving the room's aesthetic.

Wainscoting details play a pivotal role in the bathroom’s design, adding depth and texture to the walls.

These elements complement the heritage character of the terrace and seamlessly integrate with the room’s overall architectural narrative.

The lighting design, featuring selections from renowned designers Kelly Wearstler and E.F. Chapman.

Wearstler’s avant-garde fixtures introduce a modern sophistication, while Chapman’s timeless designs ensure a warm and inviting ambiance.

Together, they create a layered lighting scheme that enhances both the utility and look of the room.

Brass tapware adds a touch of opulence, its warm hues and classic lines resonating with the historical context of the terrace while providing a durable and elegant solution for modern living.

The room’s layout maximises the unique floor plate, ensuring a harmonious flow and optimal use of space.

In summation, this main bathroom is a fusion of heritage elegance and contemporary design, a sanctuary that celebrates the past while embracing the present – crafted to meet the needs of its young occupants with grace and style.
