Building Hope with Fowler Homes

Sense of community is a driver with Fowler Homes – now the noted home builder is building a Queenstown home to be auctioned, with all profits going to Mike King’s I Am Hope Foundation

The Hope Home

Proudly partnering to build a better New Zealand

Fowler Homes has proudly partnered with Gumboot Friday and the I Am Hope Foundation to build a home in Queenstown.

The home will be auctioned in October 2024, with 100% of the profits going direct to Mike King’s I Am Hope Foundation.

The Foundation will use this money to continue to provide free counselling and support for young people 25 years and under around Aotearoa.

Supporting our Kiwi kids together

There are many ways a business can support their local community, but what if you could help a charitable organisation by doing something that you are already good at?

As a group home builder, we know how to build quality homes for New Zealanders – we’ve been doing it for almost 40 years.

This year our dream is to build a home for charity.

We cannot do this alone and have the support of our legend supporting partners and suppliers.

The story

A beacon of support for mental health, Fowler Homes is building a house in Queenstown with 100% of the profits going to youth mental health charity I Am Hope.

While constructing a house is no small feat, especially in current economic conditions, the aptly named The Hope Home, scheduled for completion in October 2024, is a passion project for Fowler Homes managing director Jason McGirr, a former policeman and his wife and business partner, Jen.

With years on the frontlines, McGirr says his motivation is drawn from the countless challenges he witnessed during his time as a police officer, and the continuing rising tide of suicides, domestic violence, and violence against children.

“These experiences have left a deep impact on me, and it compelled me to take action in the best way I know how,” says McGirr.

McGirr’s inspiration came from a heartfelt plea made by Mike King on the Rock radio station last year, leading up to Gumboot Friday.

McGirr says Mike's tearful passionate plea ignited the spark to roll up his sleeves and do something about a nationwide problem that “affects us all'.

'Raising awareness and providing crucial hope'

We are profoundly grateful for the team at Fowler Homes and their suppliers’ incredible support, especially in these challenging economic times, says I Am Hope founder Mike King.

"Their donation of a house is a remarkable and desperately needed gesture as young people’s mental health remains an urgent concern, and initiatives like The Hope Home play a vital role in raising awareness and providing crucial help to young people in need.”
