This dark-stained American Oak kitchen reflects quality from its appealing surfaces to high-end appliances. As practical as it is handsome, it's more than up to the task of producing everyday fare and lavish formal dinners alike

Designed by Darren James Interiors

From the designer:

Darren James Interiors was brought in to redesign the kitchen in this iconic Ascot mansion. The existing design was awkward due to a structural beam, a dated colour pallet and limited storage.

The owner desired a substantial space which would allow for both day-to-day cooking and hosting formal catered events. They requested top of the line appliances, functional finishes and integrated lighting solutions.

Aesthetically, the challenge was to bring a new style perspective which working within the traditional Hamptons design language of the existing home. The owner expressed a preference for dark and bold finishes alongside subtle yet impactful design detailing.

A concealed beam was added over the island bench which allowed for the removal of the existing column in the centre of the room.

Additional square meterage was achieved through the repositioning of the scullery entry door, removal of a standalone cold storage room and the partial box out of an unused linen cupboard.

This was truly designed as a smart kitchen with Blum Servo Drive touch technology on all drawers as well as C-Bus integration to all lighting and integrated sensor driven LED lighting in all drawers and cupboards.

Functionally, the space was zoned as front and back of house.

The front of house was the showpiece containing top of the line trophy appliances including integrated Sub-Zero fridge and freezer and a suite of Gaggenau appliances with multiple ovens, gas cooktops and a benchtop downdraft solution.

The large island bench features a single sink, bridge tap and dishwasher for the day-to-day needs of the owner.

Within the scullery, a custom cold room with two-way glass doubles as display and extra storage for catered events. A multifunctional Zip Tap and large pantry were also incorporated in this area, along with an additional washing up zone, including two additional dishwashers perfect for hiding mess.

Bespoke Black Japan stained oak custom timber doors with brass and herringbone detailing feature on the cabinetry.

All elements of the design combine to give this traditional home a modern and glamorous edge and a kitchen that is both functional and luxurious, suitable for both the needs of everyday use and to meet the demands of catered events and parties.
