New Zealand inspired biophilic office backdrops hit the market

We all know how serene and empowering a walk on New Zealand's beautiful beaches and nature trails can be. Now the restful attributes of our natural splendour are the inspiration for Backdrop – a quiet, nature-themed screen for offices and other spaces, in fact anywhere where restful zone separation is a plus

Inspired by New Zealand landforms and native flora, PLN Group
Inspired by New Zealand landforms and native flora, PLN Group created Backdrop to help create distinct zones and spaces, improve people’s wellbeing and minimise distraction from noise through their world-leading Phonix nanofiber.

Designed by PLN Group

From the design company:

PLN Group has recently launched Backdrop. Inspired by the beauty of the company’s homeland, New Zealand, as the first instalment of the latest design trend about to sweep the globe: biophilic design.

Inspired by New Zealand landforms and native flora, the flexibility of Backdrop enables businesses to support productivity and employee well-being by creating serene workspaces without stress and disruption.

The Backdrop range will be exported across the world, starting with global furniture design company Haworth in 2021.

It’s no secret people all across the world spend much of their days indoors, whether it be the office or at home. Research firm YouGiv found that the average person spends 22 hours (92%) of their day inside. Local research found stress has risen by nearly a quarter (24%) across businesses in the last two years.

It’s a basic need for people to connect with nature and the outdoors. Removal from the natural world and reduced exposure to sunlight has been found to have a range of negative impacts including depression, cognitive decline and difficulty sleeping.

Biophilic design was introduced to minimise the impact of this disconnection through mimicking natural elements from outdoors and bringing them into inside spaces.

The designers at PLN Group have introduced their first solution intended to help manage stress in the workplace with a new tranquil ‘Backdrop’ to reduce distraction in busy office lives. Backdrop is available in two designs – Peak and Leaf – with a range of sizes, forms and colours.

Inspired by the natural beauty of the New Zealand landscape, Backdrop is a collection of free-standing acoustic screens incorporating PhonixTM nanofibre to reduce noise. Backdrop is available in two design families: Peak and Leaf, in a variety of lengths, heights and shapes. Easy to move and manoeuvre. Designed and made in New Zealand.
