9 pools that really make a splash
Social, healthy, and no screen time involved – as well as being the best gift a family can have, these pools also add design weight to the homes they accompany
1. Swimming in the rain
Darren Jessop of Jessop Architects built this seaside home with sustainability in mind – as part of this, rainwater is stored and then used to top up the accompanying pool.
2. Realm of the senses
Designed by Dubbeldam Architecture + Design, this sensory-rich, biophilic home opens its back doors to the relaxing sight and sound of water, thanks to the close proximity of this sparkling pool/spa ensemble.
3. Shaped to purpose
This property had room but didn't want it all pool – a sculptural L-shaped pool from Cascade Pools provide an ideal eye candy solution.
4. Height of enjoyment
As part of a home replete with lifestyle features by Daniel Lomma Design, the pool was elevated with cascading waterfall ends and a reservoir catchment to make it pool compliant.
5. Floating in the pool
Noel Jessop Architecture designed this home and pool while Narellan Pools constructed the latter. The land drops away at the rear of the property, with the pool cantilevered over the sloping land.
6. Architectural extension
As part of this home's dramatic renovation, by Linda Simons of LSA Architects, strong ribbons of tiles organise the pool spa and terrace spaces. These are aligned with the home's structural columns accentuating the modernity of this reconsidered side of the home. The pool is by Project Build.
7. How important again?
For this landscaping project by Hayden Stark of Xteriorscapes, it was clear that the pool, by Pioneer Pools, was pretty important to the owners – so much so that to accommodate all the backyard features required, they actually bought the home next door and co-joined the backyards.
8. We only swim with an audience
With a light, sophisticated palette, this home's interiors – by Elaine Cecconi, Cecconi Simone – maximise natural light and external views to the inviting pool. The double height family room has a cathedral like presence, offering the ultimate life saver's viewing platform.
9. Mind that step
Having a lap pool sitting right up against the house was a requirement for this new home by architect Jim Zack of Zack/de Vito Architecture + Construction – the result means the owner can literally step out of the master suite directly into the pool, hopefully with intention. The pool is by Wine Country Pools.
