Resolving challenges of heritage requirements results in holistically sustainable home with a very distinctive character

​​​​​​​Left: One of the principles behind the design of this home was that sustainability elements should be integrated into the architecture, rather than seen as an add-on. To that end, the solar panels double as cladding instead of being placed on the roof. While this does reduce the amount of electricity generated, architect Clinton Cole says the trade-off is that the home’s roof is now freed-up for planter boxes to grow vegetables.
