​​​​​​​Black recedes and white steps forward, creating the illusion that this new kitchen is almost cut out of the 1850s home’s existing sandstone. The wider renovation is an exercise in interweaving the hereditary fabric with the new elements to mutual benefit. The ceiling is pulled back from touching the sandstone, while concealed lighting in this gap washes down the sandstone wall, accentuating its rugged texture.
