This central staircase forms part of a contemporary new home by Lomma Design. One homeowner wanted wood, the other steel – the result is a staircase with timber treads underpinned by stepped steel plate. The upstairs walkway looks open to this void, but is actually glassed off to prevent heat rising from the floor below. The room on the right upstairs has a textured exterior wall and a disguised laundry door is set into this – while it is obvious from this angle, the door all but disappears from oblique angles.
