Design statement

This bathroom forms part of a new home designed on the elevated hills of Jerrabomberra and was an exciting project to be involved with.

The owner wanted something special and a little different than the usual bathroom design.

The brief was to create a modern and unusual layout that filled and balanced the space.

Quality joinery finishes were selected and coordinated to match the architecture.

Natural solid timber benchtops, timber veneer details and 2Pac Polyurethane finishes were designed and constructed for the main joinery.

Custom recessed handles were also included for a streamline look that is easy to use and maintain.

The vanity is cantilevered off a short wall and structural steel was designed and engineered to hold the vanity up off the floor and cleverly hidden within the design of the timber top.

The joinery floats off the floor and acts as a division screen concealing the view of the toilet suite behind.

Across from the toilet suite is a long walk-in shower with a custom designed shower screen that has been detailed to match the shower alcove and mirror cabinet lines across the room.

A large Victoria & Albert freestanding bath sits to the back right-hand side adjacent to the shower.

Behind the bath is a large picture window that looks onto a private bush reserve.

A matching Victoria & Albert basin sits on the end of the cantilevered timber vanity top and can be seen and accessed from the front and back of the vanity.

Black tapware was selected to contrast the white basin and bath and this also matches other black details and finishes used within the architecture.

A feature pendant light sits safely to the side of the freestanding Victoria & Albert bath and integrated LED strip lighting was included underneath the cantilevered vanity and mirror.

Waterproof pin lights were also included along the recessed shower alcove to light up the feature mosaic tiles.

Large format tiles were used on the walls for a smooth, minimal look while having less lines and grout seams were two favourite aspects of this.

The floor is also a matching large format tile that flows through from the main interior.

Tiles and mosaic samples were ordered to check colour and finish were perfect.

Team meetings with the homeowner were conducted regularly to make sure we were all on task and the owner’s preferences were being completed down to the last detail.

It was requested that no chrome fittings were to be used anywhere in the house, so all taps, accessories, lights, plugs, floor wastes etc had to be all the same finish, whether that be black, bronze or gold – but no chrome was allowed anywhere.

It was important that we delivered unique ideas that were not seen as typical in current bathrooms. Multiple plans went back to the drawing table.

We ultimately came up with the right plans and selections and the contractors on the project went above and beyond to bring our vision into reality.
