Ultraspace wins 2026 TIDA Australia Designer Kitchen of the Year
Congratulations to Mark Gacesa of Ultraspace, winner of the 2026 TIDA Australia Designer Kitchen of the Year – a bold and dramatic result in an expansive space
Conceived as the heart of the home, this Kitchen Zone is a masterclass in establishing a relaxed contemporary barn aesthetic.
By integrating the main kitchen, a walk-in pantry, dining areas, and an exposed laundry, the design unifies these functional spaces into one cohesive, immersive environment.
The architecture and decoration are intentionally intertwined.
A robust rural palette of stone, timber, steel, mesh and oxidised finishes was selected for both aesthetics and performance.
Porcelain surfaces replicate natural stone for durability, while commercial-grade wall vinyls emulate the rich look of leather and provide texture and longevity.
Functionality is hidden in plain sight.
Behind timber-panelled walls lies a fully equipped pantry featuring wine refrigeration and a commercial ice machine.
Above, illuminated sweeping voids introduce vertical drama, framing a suspended walkway that connects to guest suites and a three-storey glass lift.
Every detail reinforces continuity – from the Austrian weave cane used in arched screens and cabinetry to the feature laundry, which utilises the full slab version of the same Italian porcelain found on the floors.
The journey concludes at the dining table: a robust, live-edge oak laminate capped with antique brass, perfectly bridging the gap between traditional farm life and modern luxury.
It’s a bold and dramatic result that the TIDA judges noted successfully integrates an expansive kitchen into the wider living area in a way that provides a range of visual highlights while avoiding a monolithic look.
Congratulations to Mark Gacesa of Ultraspace – winner of the 2026 TIDA Australia Designer Kitchen of the Year.
