Tropical serenity

The outcome for this outdoor project is serene, easy-care and inviting, but the various aspects addressed to achieve this look were diverse

Designed by Mark Read, Natural Habitats

From the designer:

Natural Habitats took on the challenge of transforming the homeowner's property into a stunning outdoor living area.

The primary goal was to refurbish the pool, which had encountered complications due to two old olive trees infiltrating the plumbing system, and rethink its dark colour.

Moreover, the existing outdoor space had been disconnected from the pool area, leaving limited room for relaxation, dining, and entertainment.

The owners, semi-retired professionals with a grown-up family, desired a garden transformation that would prioritise outdoor living for relaxation and family time.

They also sought a low maintenance garden that would grant them more leisure and free time.

The functional pool space was a crucial aspect of their requirements, with easy maintenance being a key consideration.

Their vision was to achieve a harmonious and hassle-free outdoor environment.

The project scope included several elements including site and garden preparation, adjusting fence and block wall height, surface preparation for plastering and painting, the removal of stairs and seats, introducing tiles and concrete as needed.

It also involved removing gabion blocks, excavating for footings and concrete pads, installing base course for concrete bases, levelling lawn areas, and refurbishing the pool.

A plethora of additional elements included an automatic driveway gate, a grand staircase with feature planters, screening for the spa and pool pump house, an upper living and entertaining terrace.

Then there was a dining pergola, front entry patio, southwest corner garden, a rear oasis platform, pool lighting, garden preparation, and lastly  the supply and installation of plants – including specimen trees, palms, and hedges.

Inspired by the vision of a suburban sanctuary, the design embraces the allure of long summer days spent poolside and evenings by the fireplace or in the spa pool.

A perfect fusion of functionality and aesthetics, this concept creates an inviting and versatile space for the owners to enjoy and share with loved ones.

The curated plant palette plays a pivotal role in achieving the desired resort-style ambiance.

Specimen palm trees are thoughtfully placed throughout the property, evoking a sense of tropical serenity.

Strategically positioned pockets of vibrant green add textural interest and privacy, providing bursts of colour that contrast the pool's azure waters and crisp white paving.

The design focus was on crafting a tranquil environment where individuals could unwind and find relaxation amidst the lush greenery.

Every element of the design aimed to foster a peaceful atmosphere and provide a soothing retreat.
