TIDA entrant prize winners – from exotic rock to racing car

Celebrating great design by the New Zealand design community, the TIDA Kitchens evening included spot prizes drawn from attending entrants – designers Morgan Cronin and Shane George were two of the lucky winners

At the TIDA Kitchen awards evening earlier this year at Giltrap Prestiges McLaren Auckland showroom, designer Morgan Cronin won a weekend with a McLaren gull-wing 720S, donated by Giltrap Prestige – a prize he saved up for his birthday two weeks ago.

And designer Shane George won a slab of exotic stone, donated by Universal Granite & Marble.

Shane George says he chose a Fantasy Macaubus Elite quartzite slab from Universal Granite's well-stocked showroom for a future project at Whangaparoa.

"The home has spectacular 180 degree views of Army Bay and the hints of blue in this beautiful stone – when introduced as an island countertop – will connect with the sea tones," he says.

For Morgan Cronin's part, his weekend with a racing car driver's dream was exciting but also luckily relatively uneventful.

"What can I say, we drove down to Taupo and had a fabulous time. The gull wing doors on the car rise straight up, easier to use than the old gull wings – and equally if not more stylish."

The TIDA awards events are growing in popularity each year, with key designers from across the country in attendance.
