Through space as thrill space

‘Contemporary elegance’ were the words that defined the brief for this kitchen – the home was completely renovated and given a new lease of life. 

The kitchen was the heart and soul of the home and the design needed to embrace its architectural elements, such as the cathedral ceiling, while also exhibiting a ‘wow’ factor.

Located centrally between the two living spaces, the floorplan for the kitchen was narrower than many and doubled as a walkway to the living spaces. 

The layout of the home didn’t allow for a scullery or separate pantry space so storage and practicality needed to be at the forefront of all our design decisions.

Pocket doors were incorporated to provide the kitchen with extra bench space, when needed, then transforming to a seamless and clean look when they were closed – allowing any mess to be hidden.

Waterfall ends created a dramatic yet minimal look from the living room and the bar stools are designed in a cluster at one end to create a nicer social interaction and also leave them out of sight from the living spaces.

Integrating the wine fridge and standard 900mm Fisher and Paykel fridge was an integral part of harmonising the design. 

Where appliances could not be integrated, we opted for dark finishes to blend in with the melamine cabinetry.

The choice of lighting not only complements the design but enhances that requested ‘wow’ factor – the showstopper piece being the custom brass rectangular lineal pendant.

With the focus on detail, products and material specification were critical to the look of the kitchen and meeting the homeowners' 'contemporary elegance' brief.
