The new offices of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF), located, conceptualised and fitted out by Gaze Commercial, offer a flexible design and welcoming atmosphere
The most immediate way for a corporate or government body to communicate its cultural identity to visitors is through the look and feel of its working environment.
When MAF's growth in staff numbers meant a move to larger premises, Gaze Commercial was asked to source and outfit the new offices. The work encompassed building selection, design concepts, specification and project management, says Wellington design manager Flora Muriel-Nogoy.
"The MAF director general, Murray Sherwin, wanted to drive cultural change through the design, encouraging people to share knowledge," she says. "With the building choice decided, we created a fit-out offering collaborative thinking spaces, and a welcoming decor that reflected the client's focus on forestry and renewable resources.
"Several communal breakout areas were included, with pine, plywood and veneers used to create features in strategic areas, such as the Urban Tree sculpture in the reception. Coloured perspex and feature carpets provide vibrant, friendly touches, to make visitors feel at home."
