Studio2 Architects – Winner – TIDA New Zealand Architect-designed Kitchen of the Year

This kitchen quite literally sits at the heart of a home designed as a multi-generational retreat in the high density residential area of Mount Maunganui.

The home's beautifully gabled upper floor is designed to make the most of harbour views in one direction and The Mount in the other – with the kitchen sitting squarely in the centre of both the indoor and outdoor living areas.

The 4-metre long kitchen island features a waterfall-edge engineered stone benchtop, which cantilevers over the American Oak base towards the outdoor deck like a bar.

Meanwhile, white cabinetry creates a soft contrast with the vaulting cedar-clad interiors.

The cooking facilities extend past sliding glass walls to the outdoor kitchen, with its built-in barbecue and timber cabinetry that continues the line of timber on the interior walls.

The judges remarked how perfectly this kitchen sits  within its surroundings, providing a highly attractive oasis where family and friends can gather.
