When an ensuite is part of a large bedroom suite, scale matters – focussing on a sense of increased intimacy, as with this spacious yet personal-feel ensuite

Designed by Alan Bertenshaw, Matisse

From the designer:

Owner brief

  • A sophisticated bathroom featuring contemporary elegance and classical styling – Dolcevita was the premium supplier to achieve this look.
  • The master bedroom suite and walk-in wardrobe is adjacent to this open bathroom space so the area needed to flow into a more intimate, functional yet exquisite space to highlight the overall spaciousness.
  • Marry the varied requirements of both ‘his and her’ sides.
  • A table height vanity area for multi functionality and ease of use for two people.

Challenges and how these were overcome

The owner converted 3 bedrooms into the grand master suite, which resulted in a majestic bathroom measuring at 7m x 3m – the space needed to feel grand and luxurious but also intimate and we overcome this by creating zones, utilising the cabinetry to form a functional ‘his and hers’ wash station with a long vanity area for dressing up or down – plus, separating the shower and toilet area adds to the sense of private areas within the overall spaciousness.

Products that played a significant role in the design

Dolcevita cabinetry – the unique curves of the door and sides distinguish this sartorial collection which incorporates modern shapes and soft surfaces with a vintage air.

The elegant, refined internal structure recalls the external finish of the bathroom cabinet, to create continuity.

Due to the grand scale of the space, we could play with the textured ripple effect in the base and wall units and marry this with a busy yet sophisticated Calacatta Luxe stone on the walls.
