Seamless entertaining

This standout landscape and pool design enhances connection to the family home for improved use – level changes are seamless

Developed design by Dean Herald, Rolling Stone Landscapes

From the landscape designer:

Set underneath an existing grand oak tree, this landscape and pool design addresses the level changes required while enhancing connection to the family home for improved use.

Following an initial layout from Space Landscape Designs, the family engaged the services of Landscape designer Dean Herald from Rolling Stone Landscapes to develop the design further, adding detailing, building out the design further and making product and planting selections.

The space is defined by textured sandstone retaining walls on three sides, with the fourth side consisting of dark painted timber fencing, including an outdoor shower area.

With entertaining as a focus, the inclusion of a well-appointed outdoor pavilion plays a key role as the heart of the backyard.

Three large skylights bring light into the pavilion, while also giving glimpses of the oak tree above.

Inside the pavilion, a generous outdoor kitchen accompanies the dining space while ceiling heaters allow extended use through the seasons.

A detailed firepit space with inviting furniture adds a great breakout area for all-weather use.

This space is defined by an inset herring bone pattern of brick pavers, while the central circular firepit is made of Corten steel.

The fully tiled swimming pool with adjoining spa is positioned to connect directly with these entertaining areas and is enclosed by glass balustrading to keep the area as visually open as possible.

Meanwhile, pockets of plants add softness and blend the individual spaces.
