Rugby star chooses roofing legend

Former All Black and Crusader Israel Dagg's stunning Christchurch family home stands as a testament to the enduring good looks of Dimond Roofing's Heritage Tray

In the picturesque town of North Canterbury, a remarkable family retreat stands as a testament to the enduring beauty of Dimond Roofing's Heritage Tray.

Installed by the skilled professionals at RoofingSmiths, this roofing profile has become the crowning glory of a home filled with warmth and character.

Former All Black and Crusader, Israel Dagg, and his wife Daisy, had never expected to settle in the South Island after Israel's rugby career came to an end.

However, fate intervened one day in Christchurch, as they both realised their deep affection for the city.

A decision was made – to stay and create a haven for their growing family.

Having already built their first home in Northwood, the Daggs wanted more space to accommodate their expanding family, including their young children, Arlo and Tilly.

Their search led them to a sprawling 10-acre block in Clarkville.

As they drove up the long private driveway, they knew they had found their dream location.

The Daggs enlisted the expertise of Amberley-based builder, Keane Builders, who skilfully brought their architecturally designed 486m² home to life.

With Daisy's interior design diploma and the collaborative input of their Gisborne-based friend and architect Shane Kingsbeer, the result was a modern farmhouse with coastal elements – a harmonious blend of rustic charm and coastal elegance.

The Heritage Tray roofing profile from Dimond Roofing played a pivotal role in enhancing the home's aesthetic appeal.

Its timeless design, characterised by an interlocking pattern, perfectly complemented the traditional charm of the house.

With RoofingSmiths at the helm, the installation was executed flawlessly, ensuring both durability and exquisite craftsmanship.

Inside, the neutral interiors with light white walls and wooden accents exuded a coastal ambiance.

Exposed Douglas fir trusses added a touch of rustic texture to the sun-drenched dining and living areas, while a bespoke in-situ board-formed double concrete chimney evoked a sense of tradition.

The Daggs' home was designed for entertaining and hosting guests – a reflection of their love for bringing people together.

One standout feature, the 'Dagger's Bar,' opened off the kitchen, offering a covered outdoor space complete with heating, a pizza oven, cooktop, bar, fire, and a TV for watching thrilling sports events.

This versatile area became the heart of their social gatherings, a space that seamlessly transitioned between seasons.

Each of the home's four large bedrooms was thoughtfully decorated in soft tones, with special touches such as a pop of dusky pink in Tilly's room and a powder room featuring a striking pink sink and a breath-taking gold mirror adorned with a floral artwork by Rose and White Home.

The attention to detail extended to the bathrooms, with muted grey tones and striking brass fittings creating a serene and elegant atmosphere.

Along the hallway, family photos showcased the importance of whānau, while Israel's All Blacks memorabilia found its place in the study – a testament to his accomplishments.

For Daisy, the home's stunning kitchen and large butler's pantry, with their white and wooden cabinetry, were culinary havens.

As a passionate cook and lifestyle blogger, she found inspiration in these spaces to create delectable recipes and store an array of produce and food products.

Israel, who also worked from home as a presenter on a popular radio show, found solace in the pool house – an office just a short 10m walk from his front door.

The north-facing rooms, adorned with generous glazing, opened onto extensive decking and a paved area that encircled a large solar-heated swimming pool and spa.

The Daggs' children, with every summer day spent in the pool, discovered the joys of swimming and embraced a life of adventure.

Outside, the landscape took shape, with a tunnel house and raised vegetable beds providing the Daggs with an abundant harvest of delicious produce.

With a vibrant and bountiful summer ahead, the family eagerly anticipated hosting and entertaining their loved ones in the idyllic retreat they had crafted in North Canterbury.

In this remarkable home, the Heritage Tray roofing profile from Dimond Roofing, installed by RoofingSmiths, exudes enduring craftsmanship and design.

Its elegant presence elevated the home's aesthetic appeal, while providing durability and protection for the Daggs and their growing family.

Together, they had created a sanctuary where cherished memories would be made for generations to come.
