Beautiful bathroom offers a wealth of functionality

Part of a full interior renovation, this master ensuite and master bedroom were high on the priority list of rooms that needed to work well for the homeowners and reflect their personality. They wanted these spaces to reflect a certain feeling of yesteryear, with an air of romanticism.

To give them a feeling of nostalgia, I designed a wall comprising individual antiqued mirrored panels, which were carefully planned to fit four equal rows across the wall. At the centre, a bespoke-designed, flush-fitting, beveled, octagonal mirror adds something special and unique.

The owners did not want to see heavy cumbersome cabinetry, so requested an open stand style vanity. This, however, proved a challenge when trying to ensure they still got adequate storage. So in response I designed a tall storage cabinet, created by borrowing some space from the adjoining custom wardrobe located on the other side of the wall. 

Sitting flush and painted the same navy blue as the wall, this cabinet blends in seamlessly, lessening its visual impact in the room.

A large shower is located behind the mirrored wall, which provides a light and generous private space. Extra-large (1500mm x 750mm) Carrara-look porcelain tiles were carefully laid on the floor and walls with minimal joins and meticulous consideration to directional flow. 

The same tile was also used for the vanity benchtop. This large light tile provided a feeling of space, which contrasts with the dark navy walls that give a sense of depth. This navy colour also becomes a backdrop to the beautiful Perrin and Rowe chrome fittings, making them shine even more.

The master bedroom continues with the same romantic theme flowing on from their bathroom. Subdued neutral grey base tones were chosen to become a backdrop for bright and cheerful Designers Guild floral patterns in the bed cushions and upholstered armchair.

Flowy soft grey drapes and relaxed blinds made up with semi sheer linen mix fabrics on two tracks – one owner wanted “the flowy feel she remembered seeing in the movie Out of Africa”.

The mid-grey Shaker style wardrobes were custom made to suit the needs of both husband and wife. These full height furniture pieces maximised storage with bespoke pull out trouser racks with space for belts and ties. The next wardrobe along houses pull out shoe drawers with discrete scallop handles. 

The cabinet interiors are not forgotten, finished in another complementary grey melamine and with door-activated lighting within the wardrobe rails to make everything more visible.

New plush warm grey carpet grounds the room and provides comfort under foot. A feeling of calm and connectedness is continued from master ensuite through to bedroom, with everything working seamlessly together.
