Design brief

Part of the brief was to review and further develop the interiors of what was already an architecturally dynamic home.

I was given the freedom to play with the space and make changes to design creative bathroom interiors to complement the architectural style of the home and the personal design preferences of the owner.

A large walk-in shower, big bathtub, good storage, and comfortable circulation space were important elements that the homeowner wanted to achieve in this main bathroom design.

Design statement

The owner likes modern and open plan concepts but did not want the space to feel cold or boring.

We chose a dynamic black & white feature polished porcelain that looks like a large travertine stone slab.

This porcelain called Copacabana comes in large format tile slabs and we chose to use it on the back wall behind the bath.

It is the first thing you see when you enter the room.

The rest of the walls and floor tile is a simple putty grey porcelain that complements the lighter grey colours seen in the feature porcelain.

Even though the colour palette is mainly black and white it still feels earthy and natural.

The toilet suite with its concealed cistern sits between the shower screen and vanity in its own space.

It is an open plan design, but the toilet still feels comfortable and discrete.

A large vanity with a vessel basin sits to the left and has generous storage within.

A feature wall mounted mirror sits above the vanity.

This has an inbuilt LED light around the perimeter and a magnifying mirror built into the face of the main mirror, prefect for doing make-up and seeing your face close if you need to.

The collective expertise of highly skilled craftspeople who execute the challenging details, particularly the mitred edges on the large format tile around the shower/bath hob shelf, was exceptional.

The bathroom design is simple but extremely effective and will look great for years to come.
