An underutilised space with no existing plumbing, and an angled wall. This was the awkward starting point for this now open, flowing bathroom

Designed by Melanie John, Cube Dentro

From the professional designer:

The brief for this ensuite was to create a trendy bathroom in an underutilised sunroom.

The first home buyers wanted a space that was soft with a splash of colour that worked cohesively with the grey and blue tones seen throughout the 60s home.

The challenge was to take a space with no existing plumbing, and an angled wall, and transform it into a beautiful ensuite.

Before we could look at the colours and finishes, careful planning was done in conjunction with the plumber and architect for consent.

We meticulously worked through the aesthetics of the room by starting with the selection of grey and white tiles, creating a timeless base to the scheme.

The custom-made vanity and the Resene Wafer wall give the space a pop of colour, while the stone top and soft grey basin are complemented by the black tapware.

The lighting was an important feature which was not to be overlooked.

The lighting functions on two switches. One provides a relaxing warm glow from the wall globes and LED niche lighting – perfect for upon waking or when winding down for the night.

The second provides more functional general lighting, and in conjunction with the globes makes this the ideal lighting when getting ready for the day.

The end result has created a master ensuite that is on trend with splashes of colour.

The materials and finishes were chosen intentionally to work with the owners’ vision, for how they worked within the space and with the feelings in mind that would be evoked when entering the room.
