Just as everyone has a favourite meal they like to prepare, so everyone has individual tastes when it comes to kitchen design. This can make it difficult for designers choosing a palette of materials for a kitchen in a show home.Designer Suyin CKDNZ of Design Studio says the solution for this project was to mix a range of surfacing materials from The Laminex Group. Contrasting neutral tones and textures were specified for their refined look and high visual impact."The owner wanted an innovative design that would appeal to a wide range of potential purchasers," she says. "The kitchen needed to be simple and minimalist, with clean, straight lines and a neutral palette." Suyin combined a finished designer timber veneer (FDTV) in Sublime Walnut with benchtops in CaesarStone Organic White to provide the wow factor in the main kitchen area. For the pantry cabinets at the other end of the kitchen, Laminex low-pressure laminate in Oyster Linea was a practical, cost-effective choice."Sublime Walnut FDTV not only features on the main cabinetry, but also on a table cantilevered out from the island, which appears as a seamless, solid block of CaesarStone."Suyin says CaesarStone's 95% natural quartz composition makes it a particularly durable solution for the benchtops, while the use of the veneer for the cabinetry softens and warms the room visually.
