As with choosing an architect, it’s essential to select a builder you can trust. It is also reassuring to know that your guaranteed outcome is one of quality and peace of mind.

That’s why the owners of this dramatic home took the recommendation of their architectural designer, to entrust Fowler Homes Auckland South and managing director Bret Robinson, a Registered Master Builder and Licensed Building Practitioner, to look after the build.

Located in Flat Bush, Auckland, this 550m² home extends over three levels and showcases 100m² of tiled decks with spectacular views.

The home offers solid, plastered concrete block construction, a designer kitchen, and an asphalt shingle roof. Features include a central 9m-tall honed block wall, floating cantilevered stairs, and stone-clad concrete columns.

Drawing on his 38 years’ building experience, Robinson says: “This was a steep sloping site that had specific geotechnical requirements, including 6m-deep piles under the basement retaining walls, supporting three levels of concrete block walls and solid concrete mid-floors.

“However, despite the build’s complexity, the home became a reality within the agreed 18-month timeframe.

“While our core business is design and build, we are often asked to undertake complex builds that other companies will not take on. This includes building for clients with their own plans, as with this dramatic residence.”
