Personality-plus powder room
Glamour and practicality come together in this theatrical powder room which also includes a thoughtful cultural reference

From the designer:
The brief for this powder room was very simple. It had to be both beautiful and functional.
The homeowners are members of a large extended family that likes to entertain en masse, and it was important to the owners that their guests were able to enjoy a bit of glamour when visiting.
The powder room also has to withstand the needs of everyday family life and work within the stylistic parameters of the home, while having its own personality.

This design met the brief head-on, with the selection of large format floor tiles, vibrantly veined stone slabs and striking vinyl-faced wallpaper.
These elements provided the dual purposes of giving the space a distinctive personality, while also offering ease of maintenance.
The family who live in this home is proudly partially of Greek heritage, and as a nod towards column details seen in the architecture of the classical world, we wanted to honour this through the introduction of timber fluting to the joinery door-fronts.
The idea of a contemporary-yet-classic atmosphere in this small space is further established with the inclusion of the Gio Ponti vanity mirror from Gubi, and the oversized, locally sourced Volker Haug wall lights. Support for local designers had been another important criteria for both homeowners and designer.
