A particularly elegant feature surface sets off this kitchen where everything from the wall panelling, furniture and flooring to the cabinetry and custom handles all contribute to a refined Parisian air. Advanced cabinetry hardware solutions underpin the design

Designed by Annika Rowson, Rowson Kitchens

From the designer:

  • The brief was to design an elegant, functional kitchen that delivered impact with bold and unique material selection and one that offered a European/Parisian vibe. It was also important to create connection to the adjacent living room as the original kitchen was closed off from the living area.
  • Two nib walls were removed between the kitchen, dining and living areas, creating an open-plan space, and a large steel beam was engineered to support the upper level of the home.

  • Corian Witch Hazel in reverse was specified to highlight the bold pattern which brings drama to the space. The Corian Duo 023 bowl offers a seamless finish with the custom anti-spill and drop down drainer offering ease of use for hand washing. The Zenith Arc All in One Sink Mixer offers steaming, filtered chilled and sparkling water along with an integral mains water mixer for everyday use/washing up. This is finished in striking Rose Gold to enhance the depth of the Corian. The island is clad completely in Corian, including the lowered toe kicks, to create a solid block form.
  • A dark oak bar was placed on top of the island, as opposed to having an inset seating area, with 75cm high bar stools to create the sense of sitting in a bar as opposed to at a kitchen island. This matches the custom circular table which was specified to create a more intimate feel. The black Hans Wegner chairs from Cintesi, Chevron flooring and custom wall panelling offer a Parisian touch.
  • Floor-to-ceiling linen sheers gently enclose the dining area, creating an elegant and formal room within this open-plan space. A gentle cluster of custom tea toned Ollo pendant lighting by Soktas offer an elegant and gentle finishing touch to define the dining space.
  • Black Sage cabinetry along with black Dekton benching and splashbacks all meld the back wall back into the space. Then there are Fisher & Paykel integrated column fridges and freezers, along with a black oven, steam oven and warming drawer. The steam oven and warming drawer handles/trims were powder coated to match the black oven.
  • A combination of gas and induction cooking offers flexibility, while the Buster + Punch Closet bar handles add both texture and function to the tall cabinetry units.
  • The cabinetry carcass was specified to match the Chevron flooring, and black Blum Legrabox drawers and timber cutlery trays offer a refined finishing touch to the interior of the units. Blum Servo Drive is fitted throughout, including Flex to both dish drawers. The Blum space tower efficiently stores all pantry goods with minimal width required, and the tall overhead units are easily accessed with Blum Servo Drive.
  • The Corian rangehood unit with integrated Fisher & Paykel power pack delivers necessary punch to the black back wall, and also links cohesively to the island.
