Traditional retail marketing has been turned on its ear by a new design concept store in Mt Wellington.

Expect the unexpected could be the tagline for the Guthrie Bowron Inspired store at the Apex Mega Centre, says CEO Steve Salmon, who was brought on board to develop the project.

"Having travelled around the world looking at other design stores, I can truly say the Guthrie Bowron store offers a whole new approach to retail. This is a store that is all about colour and design. You might find paint and wallpaper right next to Jansport bags, cosmetics and Bodum coffee makers. It's a fun, lively approach to home decorating that brings everything together under one roof."

Salmon says that Guthrie Bowron's established position as a leading supplier of paint, wallpaper, flooring and window treatments remains unchallenged, but the company has expanded its product line in all directions.

"The concept store has a truly eclectic mix of home interior products sourced from all over the world. We have pushed the boundary in every department, so that customers can appreciate the value of good design, and the role colour can play in their home."

Homewares, furniture, manchester, bed and bathroom furnishings are all displayed in room settings so customers can see how to create a co-ordinated look.

Paints are mixed in a glass-walled paint lab, where again, the emphasis is on colour selection and mixing and matching paints with other products.

Experienced consultants are on hand to help with queries, make suggestions and offer decorating advice as required. Guthrie Bowron also offers a free measure and quote service.
