From the designer:

The modern architectural lines of this home instantly spoke to us when the owner engaged with us for the design of her kitchen.

The tall ceilings, clerestory windows, steel I-beam post, and wood ceiling give lightness to the space.

We knew we wanted the kitchen to bring a sense of cosiness to draw you in while maintaining a harmonious, open-concept space.

A quarter-sawn white oak, kerf-cut (a slit or notch) in dark raisin stain was selected for the cabinetry.

The grain-matched vertical kerf detail on the cabinets emphasised the verticality of the space while the horizontal convergence of the honed Taj Mahal countertops lightens the palette.

Both the island and back wall of the kitchen have mitred waterfall elements, giving a furniture-wrapped feeling to the kitchen.

The owner desired a kitchen without upper cabinets to emphasise the openness, but still needed storage and functionality.

This was solved with a counter wall cabinet featuring dual-sided access.

The side features an open cubby for countertop appliances to tuck in to utilise and maximise the countertop surface area and above this there is further concealed storage.

The front of the same cabinet has a hidden touch-latch door concealed within the kerf pattern, with additional concealed vertical storage behind handless cabinet doors.

The shimmery white geometric splashback tile by Ann Sacks gives subtle texture to the space while not competing with the dynamic veining of the countertops.

The wide plank French oak flooring was brought up onto the toe space of the cabinetry to complement the lightness of the home’s architecture.
