This rural kitchen offers bold simplicity in composition, paired with soft features – touches like handmade brass detailing bring a European luxe feel

Designed by Leonie Hamill, Cube Dentro

From the designer:

Building a forever home to suit the twilight years, our homeowners invited us to indulge the senses with a contemporary kitchen and scullery.

The pair wanted a high level of excellence and a European influence to get their guests talking.

Positioned in the countryside, the space should stand the test of time and rest comfortably with its exterior setting of lush pasture and distant water views.

Otherwise it was an open canvas – a designer’s dream to push creative boundaries and demonstrate true craftsmanship at every turn.

In response to the contemporary aspect, the design direction shows bold simplicity in composition, paired with soft features.

The floor to ceiling cabinetry hosts integrated appliances and is sleek and linear.

Our owners were pleased with the built in wall oven at a perfect ergonomic height and a minimalistic aesthetic.

The brass detailing defines the cabinetry and exudes a luxe feel.

A stunning island is the scene of many fun evenings and showcases complex design and workmanship.

It appears to rest on a solid brass plinth and when illuminated by strip lighting it highlights the wood grain.

For rhythm and repetition the countertop also has a brass insert.

The built-in rangehood with exquisite granite countertop and splashback is attention-grabbing and bold.

The rounded edges on the rangehood are in harmony with the island and have answered the brief for European inspiration.

Handcrafted brass inserts in the rangehood inject energy and drama into the piece and are a talking point with guests.

Overall, the American Oak veneer in a customised colour gives the right moody richness across the space – resulting in a stunning contrast against a white interior and lush green countryside.

It was also selected to tie in with the exterior cedar cladding (seen from the kitchen).

A second workbench in crisp white (repeated in the scullery cabinetry) provide a light relief from the dark tones.

Classic materials have been thoughtfully applied, with the obvious standout being the countertops in Fantasy White granite.

The effect of granite with its unique marbling gives the kitchen another European nod, while also delivering functional qualities of durability and heat resistance.

All the workmanship and intricacies have been highlighted via warm strip lighting and a dynamic brass pendant above the lowered dining area.

The use of an incorporated table creates a vibe where guests feel relaxed and connected to the hosts as they create in the kitchen.

While the kitchen and scullery are a delight to work in, the space also has a feeling of distinction, artfulness and drama.

Our homeowners respect that no adornments or fussy home décor is required to make the spaces sing.

They are thrilled with the response to an open design brief.
