Modern and minimalist, it includes a secret entrance when used by guests Designed by Tim Dagg, director, Sheppard & Rout ArchitectsFrom the architect:Our brief to ourselves for this bathroom was to create a multipurpose space that served as a bathroom for bedroom 3, an ensuite for bedroom 2 and as a guest powder room.We also wanted it to be something our visitors /guests would enjoy and for this reason introduced an element of the unknown, in the form of the timber clad wall with the invisible door. The bathroom can be accessed directly as an ensuite from bedroom 2, but for the occupant of bedroom 3 and for visitors using the bathroom as the guest powder room (it is the only bathroom on the ground floor,) they approach the bathroom through a lightwell that is also open to the entry corridor. In this space, they are met with a five metre high wall of clear finished Ash timber comprised of boards of various random widths and thicknesses. During the day this wall is washed with natural light from the 3.5m long skylight above, while at night the timber is evenly washed with light from 6 spot lights. The door to the bathroom is concealed within this timber wall and the handle to pull the door is a slot cut into the timber. Once in the bathroom, as a juxtaposition to the warm natural timber on the outside, the minimal bathroom is finished in white with white wall and floor tiles and some painted gib walls. The only break away from the crisp white is the splash of colour created by the orange glass mosaic tiles on the back face of the continuous shelf. These tiles are further highlighted by a LED strip light recessed into the top of the shelf.
