Hyatt Regency Beijing Shiyuan's design takes its design cues from the local mountain landscape and the Great Wall architecture to create a series of reception, lounges and dining spaces using a consistent architectural language and planning principles. 

The interiors respect China’s cultural heritage in a comfortable modern setting and are infused with suitably evocative artworks. The idea was to create an international hospitality venue that respects local culture and the environment. 

The hotel is designed to create a green-living environment – creating elements that evoke nature in order to give guests the sensation and experience of living surrounded by the mountain, river, lake, wild birds and flowers.

Entrance reception lobby – Mountain

The lobby design in particular is directly inspired by the local mountain landscape and the section of the Great Wall in Badaling. As a backdrop to the reception, layers of shaped, overlapping large slabs of natural marble set against the wall are backlit to create a dramatic endless mountain silhouette. 

In addition, there is a large scale contemporary copper metal mountain sculpture suspended at the centre of the lobby. The hanging work of art also finds an echo in the dark natural stone installation art on the floor directly below it – together these elements form a focal point of the entire lobby.

To further enhance the drama of the lobby, its ceiling incorporates three different level steps, with light troughs, to enhance the architectural pitch roof design. This design move made the lobby overall space more towering.

Lobby lounge – Winter ski

The Lobby Lounge is inspired by a winter skiing chalet. The wooden ceiling sloping ridge extends down from the lobby to create a more comfortable leisure and sit-in space for the lounge. 

The lounge floor finished with natural warm wood and area rugs that resemble grassland. 

The large comfortable seats and sofas are arranged with settings to accommodate different needs. The floor lamps and magazine racks designs were inspired by skis, snowboards and firewood. 

There is also a library full of book of winter sports, plants and garden art as well as accessories and displays which all connected to the Winter Olympics, the Horticultural Expo and the beautiful landscape of Yanqing.

Conference area – River

The hotel's staircase design is not just about its functionality – to link up the ballroom floor and the conference rooms’ floor. It is also a light wooden, and of course natural, sculpture in its own right.

Conference rooms themselves are flexible with variable combination space. The warm wood veneer wall with natural texture stone floor and artistic style carpet with texture and different shades, created a warm and yet elegant meeting atmosphere.

F&B area – garden

All day dining – Indoor garden

The all-day dining area follows the theme of Indoor Garden.

There is a huge flower-coloured mosaic wall along the entrance wooden vault ceiling hallway of the restaurant, allowing guests to feel like they're entering an ocean of flowers.  

The restaurant's reception counter is designed with an ancient tree trunk as the base, with a substantial slab of smooth white marble countertop creating a strong material contrast. The reception is both modern and natural, forming a bright focal point.

In additional, the use of textured glass together with dark metal frame partitions, doors, outdoor furniture and light fittings all together evoke the indoor green house look intended.

The pergola and green radish climb along the open dining area connecting with the world of flowers seen at the entrance. Using white marble and light wood, together with soft and lively coloured upholstery creates a warm, fresh and comfortable dining environment.

The restaurant is intended to evoke a spring breeze all year around. Warm and pleasant, it allows guests to fully feel the joy and comfort of their Hyatt Regency Beijing Shiyuan-based holiday.

Chinese restaurant – Chirping birds and fragrant flowers

With the theme of Chirping birds and fragrant flowers, the design approach of the hotel's Chinese restaurant is inspired by local mountain villages.

For example, the entrance wall of the Chinese restaurant is finished with the traditional Chinese dark grey roof tiles.

As soon as you enter the entrance console area, there are the ceiling with partial wooden lattice, the flowers and bird’s mosaic inlay flooring on top of the natural stone floor and the birdcage style lamps casting interesting shadow on the wall, which created the warmth of the local village, prompting people to enter the Chinese restaurant.

Inside the open dining area, there is a full-height display cabinet of Chinese tea and tea pots as a feature dividing wall. The wall, by a window bay, is finished with flowers and birds to enhance the design theme.

Inside the private dining rooms, the Chinese-style ridge truss echoes the architectural elements of the public area. The diversity of the materials is rich and refined such as the custom pattern rug, the soft cushions and fine leather upholstery, the textured glass and also the custom leaf pattern natural stone floor.

Regency Club

The design of the Hyatt Club is simple, modern and sophisticated. The overall mood is smart and warm. The natural wooden floor and wood stone are the main materials. Using wood truss design on the architectural slope ceiling highlighted the architectural form of the space.

The furniture and lamps are more stylish and energetic. The contemporary artwork and carpet design are based on nature and complement the overall hotel style, green life.

Guestroom – Grassland and nature

With Yanqing, the local National Park, all four seasons reflect nature at its most beautiful –opulent, even. And inspired by the park, all the guest rooms are designed to celebrate the theme of getting back to nature.

The guestroom corridor carpet is designed to resemble Kangxi grassland in Yanqing, and lets guests to feel like they are walking on the grass. And by each guest room entrance door, there is a hanging bird-lamp to welcome guests.

The colour schemes inside the bedrooms are natural – mainly in beige, brown and different shades of green. Using a natural warm wood finish on the floors, doors and furniture, along with country-style pendant lights, creates a warm, relaxed resort look.

In order to highlight the nature concept, there are nine different local endangered plants and flowers selected for different rooms as a focal feature artwork of the room design.
