Owner requestsCombine toilet/bathroom into one space – lose the bathA functional space for three teenage boysA warm modern twist on a rustic earthy aestheticTo be on view from kitchen (when door open) – did not want to see toiletInclude display for ornamentsTowel storageTwo basins and a large showerKeep existing windowsDeal with a very high angled 4-5m stud height ResponseWalls and timber ceilings were removed to combine both spaces, and proportionately lowered to 2.7 flat.Layout was reconfigured for functionality. The natural porcelain floor tile was continued through from the kitchen for consistency/warmth, and applied to two walls. A gloss tile reminiscent of stone/moss was applied to feature walls for a modern earthy aesthetic. Now dark stained timber cabinetry combines display and towel storage upon entering – this continues to form the privacy screen to the toilet in the shape of fins spaced evenly apart, not to enclose. The timber vanity is substantial and masculine connecting with the cabinetry opposite.Bold gun metal vessel basins/tapware sits beautifully against the tiles.A large shower has plenty of standing space, with recesses for soaps/shampoo.A moody elegance is created with lighting to the cabinetry and space.
