More than all white

This was a really exciting project for us! We started in 2016. The homeowners purchased a home from the 1950s, in desperate need of a re-do, but with amazing bones.
The footprint of the home was not touched, but the interior was gutted.
We were hired to design and make all of the selections including kitchen, tile, bathrooms, floors, furnishings, etc. We made all of the selections, right down to the towels and the serving pieces in the kitchen. It was a turn-key project.
It’s a contemporary style, two storey home set on a lush landscape.
The owners are a family of four with two young children under 12.
The owners have a strong love of art and design in many forms.
He likes a very clean, modern aesthetic, while she prefers a bit of an exotic, travelled look, mixed in with modern. White was a prerequisite in many of the spaces, but we warmed it up with bold art and artefacts from their travels around the world.
The home is just under 464.5m².
Working with architect Jordan Rosenberg and builder RTH builders, we remodelled the entire home including five bathrooms and the kitchen (created by Modiani in Englewood).
Walls were opened up and moved to create a space for the owers’ lifestyle. The Piece de resistance is the master closet.
We opened the wall of a smaller closet and an adjacent room to create a closet fit for a celebrity. The closet consists of two walls of cabinetry, two islands, a platform area with a three-way mirror, a kitchenette – equipped with a refrigerator, TV and a coffee machine – and a sitting area. Black and white was the theme in this space.
The breakfast area had an unusual round window which made the focal point.
We created a built-in banquette which we formed around the window. A modern table, an orb chandelier and Lucite chairs create a cool vibe that the family loves to hang out in.
The den is the hang out space for the family in the evenings. Lots of granite was removed from the walls and fireplace and replaced with simple sheet rock and built in cabinetry.
A large, cosy sectional anchors the space while a huge wooden cocktail table serves as a surface for some of the many cocktail and art books they collect.
The dining room became the space to display the photography that the owners had taken during travels through Asia. The living space is the highlight with two storey ceilings and this is completely open to the other living areas in the house.
We added a touch of glamour with the three stainless steel cylinders for cocktail tables.
We used neutral upholstery with pops of colour on the pillows that complement the owners’ art works.
The office is adjacent to the master bedroom. We re-purposed the existing cabinetry in the space by re-working the shelves and painting them white.
A writing desk by Julian Chichester takes centre stage and two cool chairs by Bernhardt create a conversation area.
A pop of orange was introduced to tie in with the other open areas of the home.
For the master bedroom, we designed a custom bed using mirror, upholstery and floating night stands.
A simple colour scheme creates a modern, serene feel.
Our homeowners could not be more thrilled with the result.
