Noise and condensation were two major design challenges for the Baywave Tect Aquatic and Leisure Centre, with its five pools in a large open space, and some of these designed for children.

To keep noise levels acceptable, acoustic ceiling and wall panels were specified by Jasmax and supplied by Forman Building Systems. The company also supplied the roof insulation to control condensation.

The large amount of moisture in the main hall and the use of chemical in the water treatment, called for special acoustic materials. The solution was a combination of Eurocoustic Acoustichoc ceiling tiles and a continuous band of Fabri Trak® acoustic wall panelling around the perimeter of the pool hall. These tiles and panels are robust and very sound absorbent, providing a very good level of noise and thermal insulation, says the company. The Fabri Trak panels were tiled in alternative tones to complement the colours of the base building materials.
