Looking up

To update the look of this 1960s house, and to provide a textured roof, the owners specified Gerard CoronaShake tiles

For many homes, especially those with more traditional architectural styling, the roof is a prominent feature. These homes, like the southern-American house shown here, often have steeply pitched roofs, with gables and dormers providing additional visual impact.

The sheer size of this roof was one of the reasons the owners undertook considerable research before starting their renovation.

"We needed a textured tile to ensure the roof wouldn't simply look like a large, overpowering mass of black," they say, "Gerard CoronaShake tiles in the colour Charcoal have the look of shakes, which works well with the style of the house. Their texture is highlighted by the sun at different times of the day, which adds visual interest."

The owners also say they appreciated the seamless look of the roofing, its cost effectiveness and the fact that it's easy to maintain.
