The large, elevated site St Heliers was selected in order to design and build six large apartments all with amazing panoramic views of Rangitoto and the expansive Waitemata Harbour while being just a short stroll to the local village shops, restaurants and bars is an added bonus.

Brief for Level 4 penthouse master suite

Create a well appointed, luxurious resort-style master suite with interesting quality and timeless style – to appeal to a discerning buyer.

The penthouse encompasses the whole floor complemented by three sides of floor-to-ceiling glass, including a large covered terrace designed for entertaining.

The sophisticated interior featuring natural materials of stone, timber, steel, alabaster and glass – create a calming backdrop to view Rangitoto and the expansive harbour.

Design and solutions

The generously proportioned master suite, including bedroom with stunning harbour views, dressing room and light-filled ensuite, allowed for the bathroom interior to be visually included as part of the bedroom, thus creating the resort styled suite requested.

Looking through the large doorway with cavity slider into the master ensuite, the freestanding bath takes centre stage with the vanity running the full width of the rear wall.

The toilet and walk-in shower are discreetly hidden from view by a wraparound tiled centre wall housing the individual heated towel rails.

The large wall-to-wall vanity – featuring oak cabinetry and twin under-mounted basins set in a marble top – allows for generous his and hers bench space.

The matching sliding mirrored doors sitting above and set back from the vanity allow for additional hidden storage.

These house power points and are lit above and below by discrete LED strips in order to avoid reflected mirrors.

The large shuttered window behind the bath fills the bathroom with natural filtered light and provides privacy from beyond.

Large format floor tiles, complete with underfloor heating, and wall tiles with bold veining add another glamorous element to the understated elegance of the design.
