Design statement

We purchased part way through a new build in 2020 and had the opportunity of re-designing the home’s internal layout so the flow and functionality would work in with our busy, entertaining couple (no kids) lifestyle.

The original design was very generic and small because a bath was squeezed into the original floorplan.

As we don’t have kids and never use a bath, we wanted to create a sense of space including introducing a generous shower with a wall-to-wall built in niche.

This bathroom is for guests, too, and we wanted something both a bit special and also quick to clean after guest have used it.

The bathroom is in the centre of the home, so we introduced two skylights above the shower for natural light and to give a sense of more space within the lovely pitched ceiling. Operating on rain sensors the skylights also ventilate the space naturally.

To complement the dark walls, and dark stone plinth we introduced halo lighting behind the mirror which accentuate the bathroom’s brass accents, and creates moody pockets of light.
