Along with a new guest house, this home has been comprehensively reinvented with only accents and the original floor slab retained. The new home boasts space, light and a character all its own

Renovating building designer – Reg Hawkins, Reggie's Residential Design & Drafting

Designed by To transform an existing home into a large industrial-style house for a growing family as well as a teenage retreat/guest house accommodation. The main orientation was to face to the rear (West) and not to the sides, due to future subdivision and views.

However, this done as an addition for the following reasons:

1. Due to the existing house being one of the owner’s family home since they were a child, there were sentimental reasons to keep at least some of the existing structure

2. During construction, they would remain living in the existing house, build the new northern section and move into that, then start work on the southern end of the house (where the

existing dwelling was located)

Design solution

Our design solution was formed in 2 parts.

Part 1 consisted of a large addition to the north of the original home followed by a remodel of the existing dwelling while retaining features such as internal brickwork, some external walls and the existing slab.

We then completely remodelled the upper floor into the owner's quarters. This features a master suite consisting of an oversized ensuite with walk-around shower and an enormous dressing room.

Part 2 made use of the existing carport/garage. This was extended to the west and an upper floor added for sleeping quarters.
