In the realm of the senses
While modern and symmetrical in terms of design, this bathroom also uses tone and texture to evoke a bold, seductive ambience

From the designer:
The brief from our homeowners for their master ensuite, in a contemporary architectural home, was that they wanted a bold design that would sit centre stage in their master wing.
It was to embrace a dark, moody atmosphere to integrate seamlessly with the overall feel of the private master wing; provide dual entry into the space; and include a dual vanity and w.c within the layout – all the while retaining a modern elegance.
While the overall result is a design that is modern and restrained by its clean lines, there is a clever play on design, with a sense of boldness and seductiveness seen throughout.
The layout forms a practical space, which features a large double shower zone at the core of the room.
This is fitted with a slide and rain shower heads at each end to provide the full shower experience.
A floor to ceiling double track glazed shower door system allows for entry off each side of the bathroom space, while essential shower product storage is placed in recesses at each end, highlighted by hidden LED lighting.

Enhancing the sense of spaciousness and a moody aesthetic, twin vanities are presented opposite the dual entries into the ensuite.
Designed as pieces of furniture, in a selected textural veneer finish, with custom dark tones, the two vanity cabinets set the stage for the contrasting Silver Shadow marble tops and the stunning glass-blown, hand-painted relief vanity bowls.
This in combination with the aged iron, contemporary wall-mounted tapware, makes strong reference to our homeowners’ request for modern elegance.
Careful consideration to storage is also included within the vanity designs, as well as being set behind the custom steel framed mirrors with hidden power and shelving.
The inclusion of simple details like heat pads provide enhanced functionality for the user.
The main body of tiling throughout is in a 600 x 900mm modular porcelain – moody and alluring, yet modern and sophisticated with its approach.
The contrast between the tilework and the selected HPL timber finished ceiling panels, enhances the feeling of depth within the space.
Strategically placed lighting enhances the room’s functionality and accents the bathroom’s moodiness and atmosphere by enhancing the alluring textures and finishes in the room. At the same time, it still provides adroit task lighting where required.
The selection of the moving light thins to each side of the mirror, allows the user to change the light quality as required for the task at hand.
LED strip lighting provides a wow factor and highlights the spatial qualities within the shower space while night sensors under the vanities provides key access task lighting.
While this ensuite may be dark and moody with the selection of materials and palette, it ensures the desired sense of luxury and ambience respecting the homeowners request for a modern approach with a sense of elegance.
