Building a stand-out house in a premier location isn't always straightforward. Houses are often judged purely on personal architectural preferences. However, quality materials will always set a house apart, and ultimately add to its long-term appeal.

This home, by Riordan Construction, is testament to the value of such materials. Its imported Solerati clay roofing tiles, for example, capture the French Provincial character, adding authenticity and street appeal. Paul Riordan of Riordan Construction says his clients made an early decision on the roofing, as they knew it would be an important feature.

"The home was designed with a look of understated grandeur, and they wanted authentic, high-quality products that would help achieve this look," says Riordan. "This 80/20 blend of Solerati Lucentum and Aitana tiles replicates the aged tiles seen in Provence. The varied, antiqued surface of the tiles provides a lot of detail and character. The large profile also works to give the house a very solid, lasting look."

Marshall Burrowes of Solerati says that despite their aged appearance, the tiles are a modern design, and are highly weatherproof and particularly strong.

"The tiles comply with local E2 building standards, and are guaranteed for 35 years," he says. "This roof is going to perform as well as it looks, for years to come."
