Home’s architecture capitalises on views – including from master suite
This master ensuite design makes the most of dramatic outlooks while offering a light-filled, airy aesthetic
When a property is strategically opened up to optimise views to an adjacent forest, it makes good sense that the home’s architecture will in turn capitalise on the newly freed-up outlooks.
Such was the case with this ensuite, part of an expansive master suite by designer Mark Wilson of Masonry Design Solutions.
For the bathroom, the homeowners wanted a double vanity, a large double shower, a resort feel and a freestanding tub to take in the view.

“We took several steps to make the space feel light, including floating the stone vanity, having a glass-fronted shower, large format wall and floor tiles and introducing discreet LED strip lighting behind the mirror, under the vanity and recessed into the shower stall and the ceiling."
“Of course, the generous bay window with its giant 3.5m-wide window is the principal source of light – and views – and as such was the natural location for the freestanding tub.”
Another ask of the owners was to include a feature stone wall at the rear of the glass shower stall. This connects with both the vanity and architectural detailing elsewhere in the home. And there was another design plus to having a dark rear wall to the shower stall.
“The beautiful forest beyond the windows is quite dark in tone and the deep grey rear wall in the shower brings a degree of balance to that.”
And in terms of balancing forms, the mainly rectilinear bathroom includes contrasting oval vanity-top basins and the oval shaped bathtub.
Finally, the master ensuite is as practical as it is aesthetically in tune. For example, a wealth of storage is seen in the open towel rack and two drawers in the double vanity, and in the three cabinets behind the segmented mirror.
The double shower stall also includes the pampering touch of a double rainhead shower.
