This expansive kitchen has a generous feature island front and central, consisting of "the largest single piece of marble we could find"

Designed by Linda Simons, LSA Architects

From the designer:

The brief was to provide a home for a wonderful family – their forever home.

The Federation house was retained with extensive rear and first floor alterations to provide a grand family home to allow for guests, parties and entertaining.

The kitchen is the heart of the home.

Large in size, it anchors the rear room and provides a central meeting and chatting space.

A walk in pantry, and adjoining laundry room, also featuring the same colours and functionality services the kitchen.

The focus of the kitchen is the island bench, a single piece of stone that is 2.9m x 1.9m – the largest single piece of marble we could find!

The kitchen was designed around this.

The beautiful stone wraps the sides of the island and provides a solid marble block visual.

You can sit a whole crowd at this bench and still have ample space for a charcuterie board!

Suspended above the bench is the feature Long John 6 light Pendant in brass and black with tan leather straps.

The light teams beautifully with the other feature element in the room – the Lacanche Citeaux gas stove.

This beautiful stove also has a black finish with chrome and brass detailing.

The stove is framed with a break in the cabinets.

The island, pendant, stove and feature skylight all combine to create a powerful visual axis to the kitchen, drawing you into the space.

Flanking one side of the kitchen are the four Sub Zero elements – fridge, freezer and two wine fridges – they provide a huge amount of storage and focus.

The ability to grab a bottle of wine and sit to chat at the island bench is a lovely feature.

The other side of the kitchen abuts the outdoor alfresco area.

Easy passing of food through the windows and views towards the garden brake down this side of the room and provide additional light and a link to the garden and pool.

Although the kitchen has a subtle colour palette, the layering of the materials and the different metal highlights provide a dynamic and playful space that is light, bright and engaging.

Feature Buster and Punch handles add to the texture with their attractive knurled finish.

The kitchen has successfully combined the function and aesthetics that were requested while remaining approachable and engaging.

The large space encourages gathering, conversation and remains easy to use and maintain.
