However, the kitchen had become tired and dated, with a layout unsuitable for the current family’s lifestyle. As part of the design, the wall connecting the formal living room behind the kitchen was knocked out to provide an open sight line, flooding that area with natural light and providing a visual connection between the spaces Owner brief:Completely renew and modernise the entire space, with new functional layout suitable for cooking for a large family and still sociable for working from home and kids’ homework etc.Provide superior cooking and appliance functionality, hide away all the messy daily operationsRequire highest quality product and contemporary design aesthetic complementary to the architecture of the home.Solutions:Knocked open the wall connecting the formal living room on the level above to provide an open sight line, flooding that level with natural light and providing a visually exciting and inviting connection between the areas.Created a separate pantry space to tuck away the mess of daily preparations, together with easy access storage of pantry goods and Dyson vac etc. We chose Poggenpohl here for its minimalistic beauty and quality of design.Cabinetry details include a steel base in the sink cabinet, exclusive stainless steel handles and electronic lift overhead doors. A pop-up benchtop extractor leaves the upper area of the kitchen clear – accentuating the dramatic line of sight from the lounge behind the kitchen right through to the family area and giant windows. The kitchen layout provided a very generously proportioned cooking and entertaining island to gather around. All appliance and service needs are functionally positioned to make cooking an enjoyable experience.Gaggenau appliances were selected for superior quality and ease of use. The owners were particularly excited with the pop-up downdraft, not only for the impressive engineering and technology but also because it enabled us to keep the area open and unobstructed with the high ceilings. Liebherr provided all the precision integrated refrigeration.Neolith porcelain was selected on the benchtops and splashbacks to provide maximum durability and the contemporary matt finish. The well equipped pantry has two entries, one from the rear of the kitchen. A wall of open shelving provides for speedy access. Team7 in Beech Heartwood was selected for the kitchen space, providing a high quality sustainable solid wood kitchen, including all carcasses, drawers and fronts finished in luxurious natural oil.We also replaced and updated the flooring with poured concrete terrazzo and introduced fresh plastering, floor to ceiling steel framed windows and contemporary light fittings throughout the space.
