Style dovetails functional in this easy-upkeep bathroom with a pleasing tactile palette – zones of use mean up to three children can use the space at once

Designed by Katie Scott, Sticks+Stone Design

From the designer:

This bathroom perfectly serves the needs of a young family of five – in style.

The bathroom is in a classic/contemporary home, so its look and feel needed to reflect this aesthetic.

The room is generous in size and enjoys a wonderful outlook over the garden.

It also has direct access to a balcony via full-height French doors.

Framing the sculptural, freestanding bathtub in front of these windows was an obvious design decision.

The introduction of sheers adds privacy when needed and also creates a wonderful, soft and calming diffused light.

From a practical perspective, the bathroom is designed to function seamlessly – even with up to three children using the room at one time.

Thoughtful zones were created to accommodate this, including double vanities, a walk-in shower, and a discreetly hidden toilet.

The room was also designed to be easy to maintain – hence the choice of tiled partition walls instead of glass, reducing the cleaning workload for the family.

The material palette is a balance of calm and restrained luxury.

Large-format Travertine-look tiles establish the tone, accented by aged-brass tapware and fittings.

A textured (waterproof) plaster finish has been applied to two of the walls, which adds an unexpected, tactile element to the palette, demonstrating that luxury and functionality can coexist in a family bathroom.
