From the building designer:

The owners dreamed of having a family home in Hampton style.

They bought a single-storey house in Rodd Point – a great location close to the city with plenty of parks and amenities.

The homeowners' brief was to extend the house, build the first floor and add a lap swimming pool.

They wanted plenty of space for their extended family entertainment and asked us to accommodate four bedrooms, a game room, a spacious kitchen and living area, a study room and two bathrooms.

One owner went through many magazines, collected images of houses she liked and included them in the brief, too.

The block of land was 381m².

We could not extend the original house further and accommodate a swimming pool so settled on the idea to reuse the existing fabric as much as possible.

We decided to preserve two bedrooms and the front bathroom.

The owners agreed to demolish the run-down garage and replace it with a single garage and a space for a dirt bike or a workshop.

We proposed a second roller shutter door for the separate bike access.

The kitchen on the ground floor was the main focus of the house design.

It was the most important element for the owners, and we spent much time discussing the kitchen layout.

The laundry is behind the kitchen with a swimming pool view.

We proposed the dining area to be well connected with the alfresco, including direct access to the swimming pool.

On the first floor, we accommodated a spacious family room, an extensive study, a master bedroom with a walk-in robe and two smaller bedrooms.

The owners did not want an ensuite next to the main bedroom – instead, they requested a spacious wardrobe and an oversized shared bathroom with a double basin.

It was a pleasure to design joinery and select finishes for this house – Hampton style demands accurate detailing.

The joinery company, Wonderful Kitchen, was excellent.

One owner actively participated in the design process.

She has an exquisite taste and sense of style and significantly contributed to interior design decisions.
