Experience comes to the fore in a major building project such as this 820m² French country house by Nautica Homes.
With its bell tower and integrated architectural forms, the Coatesville house posed a number of challenges for the builder. Nautica Homes director Tony Fraser says a large amount of intricate detailing was needed to achieve the French Provene§al look.
"Rather than having a sprawling layout, like many large homes, this 820m² masonry house involved several buildings of different heights. These enhance the aesthetic appeal of the design, but required a more complex construction," Fraser says.
"The 10m main bell tower was also a challenge to build, due its great height and traditional, key-hole cut-outs."
Fraser says the intricate detailing of the loggia included the integration of rustic timber, which was rough sawn to provide a weathered look. The house also incorporated cantilevered Juliet balconies, and a double-sided, indoor-outdoor fireplace.
