Evocative paint choice leads this comprehensive bathroom renovation
This renovation of a 130-year-old cottage, celebrates that elegant era, but with a twist – painting the upper walls in Resene Bounty played a key role

A great design will always address the principle needs of your home renovation. However, the magic may come in the form of more subtle nuances – for instance, the choice of a beautiful paint surface. This home makeover by designer Donna Hunter reflects just such an attention to fine detail.
“The renovation of this modest 1880s fisherman’s cottage included a dramatic reinvention of the bathroom,” says Hunter.
The reworked bathroom includes a sculptural, freestanding bathtub, curved shower, wall-hung vanity, heated towel rail and underfloor heating – all with a modern twist, while still keeping the cottage look.
“To recreate the cottage’s era I started with patterned floor tiles. These were ideal for the aesthetic the homeowner wanted. I then selected Resene Bounty – a steely blue-grey, patinated for an aged look – for the upper walls. This colour also became the basis for the kitchen and laundry.”
The refined colour was specified in the Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen Kitchen & Bathroom Range. This technologically advanced range combines the benefits of a rugged waterborne enamel with Resene’s proven anti-bacterial silver protection and paint life-extending Resene MoulDefender – both ideal pluses in a bathroom setting.
