From the homebuilder:

The setting

Sections are larger than in surrounding subdivisions and homes are grander, still predominantly built by group home builders, in this case G.J. Gardner Homes.

The theme for the home is ‘Desert Romance’.

It has a warm beachy vibe but with an executive level of finishing.

The brief:

  • On trend curves and colours must be incorporated – some brass and wood tones
  • Budget – must be kept within reach of a group home builder homeowner.
  • Entertaining space and open plan
  • Walk through – no closed off scullery
  • This show home is built in a high-end subdivision in the coastal area of Papamoa, Bay of Plenty.

The kitchen

The kitchen is large and designed for entertainers.

It needed to look appealing from all viewpoints, being open plan but also as a thoroughfare to a formal lounge / media room at the front of the house.

Early in the design process it was identified that on-trend curves would need to be showcased in this house.

Curves are not an easy design element to add to any construction process, so showing G.J’s ability to incorporate elements like this was timed perfectly for this special showhome.

The kitchen works well within its wider setting.

After finding the right look for the central island, these features then became incorporated into other parts of the home.

Of course, when working with a group home builder, budget is high in the list of considerations and with a space this large presents challenges.

This is a practical kitchen, providing no lack of storage or bench space.

By adding the feature curve in one focal area of the kitchen, and ensuring all of the leading features were placed in key visual positions, we were able to be more restrained with costs in the less obvious spaces.
