Elements include an earthy palette, softly rounded cladding curves and a fun glass-sided pool Well-rounded – this home's exposed corner site required design considerations such as access, outdoor living spaces' privacy from an abutting busy road and also maximising views from most rooms. Designed by Urbane ProjectsFrom the house designer:This site provided us with the challenge to respond to both its locality and the inherent conditions associated with coastal living. The exposed corner lot site required design considerations such as ingress and egress for both cars and pedestrians, outdoor living spaces, privacy from a busy abutting road and all while still maximising views from the rooms. One family member checks out another's dog paddle skills from the sheltered outdoor living space. By placing the home close to the western boundary and having the main living areas on the upper floor facing the ocean, we were able to create floating infinite views above the road and noise. The middle of the home constricts on the northern side to allow solar access onto the outdoor living zone which includes a raised pool and viewing window. The raised pool allowed us to provide a raised sun deck which enabled the owners to see over the boundary walls to the ocean view beyond. Wood floors and a stone-clad pillar are two prominent natural elements in the main, open-plan living space. The home’s architecture and aesthetic borrows from its coastal environment. This is evident in the organic curved walls, limestone dry stack cladding and its timber cladding, ready to grey and weather. The beach sand was the inspiration for these natural materials and the colours draw direct influence from the home’s site along the ocean. These materials flow seamlessly through into the home between large expansive glass sections which bring in the dynamic surrounding views. The interiors scheme is also focused on playing a support role to the commanding views and natural environment.Using natural stone tiling in the wet areas and timber floors in the public zones, we were able to reinforce the feel of the natural environment. A generous-sized wooden dining table and chairs connect with the living zone's timber floors.
